Bird Park

We went to Jurong Bird Park last month, only managed to upload now cos lazy hahaa... all photos have to be downsized for quicker uploading mah. Shall picked a few interesting to pics to talk about then. This is the artificial waterfall in the park, it seems to be beautiful and cooling place. Even wedding couples went there for photoshoot.

While walking around in the park, i saw this bird staring at me lo. So i looked right back at it and to see what would happen. It slowly...

slowly...

slowly turned away. Aiya what do you expect? Their time in there must be really boring. Let me summarize their activity in captivity.

Sleeping...

Taking turns to sleep...

Hanging around...

Digging...

Talking...

Standing with legs apart...

Standing on one leg while the other holding an insect to eat.

Or basically going around doing its own "business".

Of course there's some funny stuff that took place.

This bird was walking around in the pathway for the visitors, that's where I'm standing, till it saw us coming. Then it calmly walked back to its place of captivity through the fence to join the rest. I wondered what went through its mind.

Bird:"Finally can relax, let's go jia zhua!"
*We came in*
Bird:"#$%&@ Sianz... Need to get back to work."

We wanted to see the magnificent eagles, many were high up in the trees except for this taking a bath in the pond. Did the staff feed it too much or its life is too comfy here? This eagle looked like a chicken to me, don't you think so too?

I luv this one, so colourful and pretty with head turning to one side, appearing to be shy.

There are a few shows but we were only in time for one, The Birds of Prey show, featuring the eagles, vultures and owls.

This is a Secretary bird, it looked fierce but listened obediently to its trainer.

The host held the microphone to the owl to show how loud it could shriek.

The other ability it has was swallowing the long piece of meat whole... cool!

Super late gift xchange

Our lab is having the christmas party late cos many staff went back to their home country during the Dec, then we had to postpone to yesterday to celebrate.

We bought canadian pizzas, drinks, tidbits, fruits and so on... way too much food to finish, even need to dabao the food. I ate so much that i had stomachache almost immediately, i think cannot eat watermelon with the mandarin oranges together hahaa.

The gift exchange game was the first time i play. That's how it goes: 1st person pick a gift. 2nd person can choose to "steal" the 1st person's gift or pick from the un-opened present. 1st person need to choose again if his gift is "stolen". 3rd person same as wat 2nd person did and so on...1st person gets to be the last to choose, so will be fair then. These were the present we brought, that's one more present not in the pic was a bowling ball! I was like WOW! The ball felt like 12kg lor! A female staff got that somemore hahaa! Luckily her husband's fetching her after work. The present i brought was the circled one, a pink shawl... omg in the end a guy chose it, saying he could give it to his wife.

This is what i got, liquor chocolate yay! Ly bought from T3 candy empire. Got stolen from me a few times and it still came back, so fated *grins*

It's ALIVE!

Yahooo!... feeling happy lately cos i just created another transgenic zebrafish! It is new, created from a promoter gene that was isolated from Fugu (pufferfish) and expressed in the pancreas. But when injected into zebrafish, it is expressed in the neuro tube instead! As it has not been characterized yet, alot is still unknown about this line... whether it can survive till adulthood... how the GFP expression is like at different life-stages... and so on. Too bad i can't include this in my project cos it was originally served as "safety net" for my FYP, a completely different project just in case the one i'm working on doesn't work. So far, i've created 2 transgenic lines and i felt like a mad scientist hahaa.

This is the 1st line ("monster") that i created, expresses GFP in the neuro tube, eyes... as well as in the heart (the small green thing beside the yolk). Don't have photos of the 2nd line yet, maybe show it next time.

Recently there have been several symposium and talks in Biopolis, so we get to eat free food from the catering, and even dabao back to our workplace for tea break! Reminds me of the good-old-free-food days in SBS, eating food catering that are mostly not for us heh heh. These are the dabao food, with the most delicious in ascending order.

Dumplings, got veggie i don't like.

Crab claws, real claws are made together with it.

Cheese sticks, better if eaten when hot with cheese oozing.

Lastly, chicken drumsticks, tasted a bit like BBQ and spicy. Its good... even when its already cold. We didn't get to finish them cos the dabao was only brought to us after the lunch break.. so late and so full... why i didn't know it earlier... WHY ?!

Just now while walking out the lift and along the corridor leading to my house, wah i saw a GIANT monster on my neighbour's window!

*ZOOM* See!? So BIG, almost my palm size. When i saw it, i quickly ran to a safe distance and took a pic of it. Wanted to go in nearer to get a better shot but too scared... Ewwww~ ~ ~ should be a grasshopper i think, aiya watever it is, 6 legged creatures are all disgusting to me. :p

Meiji attack

Welcome ky back! Hahaa i'm so happy cos she brought us a supermassive pleasure back from her trip to taipei and hk. Taaadaaa!~

As you can see, I can't wait to sink my teeth into it! Then later during lunch break, sq and ks were fighting for a piece of the Meiji 宝典( 甜点). Yo check out the ultimate fight of 武林盟主 vs Sharon QQ.... and keep your eyes open to see the shadow hand 无影手 as demonstrated. The match ended up in a tie score, so we had to equally distribute the chocolate.

Ky also bought this meiji, its so cool cos its more than meets the eyes~
Think its an ordinary chocolate? THINK again....

Woohoo.... transform into a mirror with stand! I already have a great idea to trick some people with this "chocolate", the condition is that they are not reading this now in order for it to work hahaa! Ooo... Then there's Ovaltine Can drink too, another nice beverage following the Mars drink that s'pore don't have. Shall stop here for now, time for dinner, maybe a giant dessert after that^^

I'm Back

Have neglected the blog for quite some time because i spent the holidays staying at home, nothing interesting to write....except about my sis heh heh.... she was tidying the house one day... you know... creating alot of dust in the house, i could just smell the flying dust in the air... wah so dirty. And because of being so close to the dust while cleaning, my sis got herself eye infection! o_O" She needed to see the doctor in the end. Muahahaa!... I'm so bad to laugh at her but there's some incidents so pity and yet so funny... you just try to politely hold back your smile with a sympathetic face rite? She's now recovered with the help of eye drops from the doctor. Have any of you seen this public phone before?

Now is already so hard to find public phone, let alone say this is a SPECIAL one, Lion ValueCall! I was walking home and saw this... it even got list of numbers and price for different countries, mainly asian countries, it even got australia.... not bad. I can tell my dad to come here if he needs to call my bro.... then he will look like one foreign worker calling back home at the void deck. OMG! If this phone is here, it means there's potential market near my home, more foreign workers will be hanging around.... NOOOO..... They better move this blangah phone elsewhere! T-T

Yay food review time! I tried this instant noodles yesterday to compare which is better. Both of them same brand and flavour, difference is left is made in indonesia, right is made in malaysia. My verdict - Indonesia wins! It has additional fried garlic bits, and it also makes me realise the good old taste of this brand, the malaysia one has changed and i don't even know... wah lau so disappointed with myself lor... haiz.

My parents bought this sponge cake from Tesco in malayisa. As usual my dad bought two because of offer. It can be baked in oven or heated up in microwave.

Hmph... doesn't... look... appetizing. It looks weird, smells weird, and tastes weird and too sweet. Sianz still got one more cake to finish. My dad has become a typical housewife after he retired, in his eyes there's only offers and sales... anything cheap he'll just grab... even when looking at the brand and you'll know not nice one. We still have some of his "victories", aka not-nice-chocolates, sitting around in the house. I bet he's waiting for us to finish up for him lor.

Actually i wanted to wait for my fren to send me the x'mas gathering photo so i can blog about it together, but i guess she's mia. My JC frens and i ate at New York New York, the half spring chicken i ordered was below average. Its cold and tough, gave up eating it and moved on to my fren's fish and chip which was so much much better!

Their hot chocolate with mushmellow was satisfying, nice to drink before you go to sleep... arhh~

Kenny and i went to clementi Botak Jones to eat western food. I think he ordered chicken sausage and fries. I LOVE the fries! Especially their seasoning makes them so delicious.

I had their signature dish beef patty with added cheese. Patty was moist and chewy... so heavenly. The price is slightly higher than hawker western food but their portions are big, and loaded with massive amount of onions! GTG already, my one-eye sis ask me to go running with her.
